A television remake of Noel Coward’s romantic weepy, Still Life that David Lean successfully made into the 1945 film classic, Brief Encounter. In this version, which was shown in America, Burton plays Alec Harvey and Sophia Loren plays Anna Jesson. Both characters are married strangers who, on meeting at a railway station, slip into a poignant affair.

Volcano: An Inquiry into the Life and Death of Malcolm Lowry
This documentary charts the life of the alcoholic writer Lowry who moved from England to Mexico and lived near the volcano Popocatepetl. Between drunken bouts he started to write the novel, Under the Volcano. It took him eight years to finish. The film is interspersed with readings by Burton from Lowry’s work.
